Land Use/Environment

There are three land-use options for the inner east side after the removal/relocation of the I-5 freeway and Marquam Bridge. All of them preserve the many historic buildings and much of the existing urban fabric within the district, plan for significant open spaces along the riverfront, maintain most of the eastbank esplanade, and bring about significant environmental improvements to the river. Even the option with the most intensive development scenario includes a minimum 100' setback from the top of the riverbank. Other options include deeper riparian setbacks and the restoration of former wetland areas that used to reside on the east bank of the Willamette.
